Doorway or Gateway Page
Doorway or Gateway page is a web page that is designed to appeal to search engine spiders that continually comb the web looking for pages to index. Also known as a "bridge page" or "jump page," the doorway page contains words and phrases that make it more likely to be indexed by a greater number of search engines. Doorway pages do not contain any messages or ads for users, rather they serve only to send them to the real page either automatically with a fast meta refresh or manually via a "Click Here" button.
Doorway pages are custom pages created with a set of keywords that will be shown to the search engines to redirect traffic. Some people use them as a hidden-type of optimization where they submit a gateway page to the search engine that has been filled with Keywords, but when the user clicks on the link to the site they are redirected to the "real" home page. Some people use them as a hidden-type of optimization [black hat SEO] where they submit a gateway page to the search engine that has been filled with Keywords, but when the user clicks on the link to the site they are redirected to the "real" home page.
Using doorway or gateway pages to enhance the search engine ranking of your website, will not benefit your company in the long-term. While it is tempting to use doorways to gain quick results, inevitably the search engines discover the pages and ban them from their index. Worse is, if you or your SEO create multiple doorway pages, all pointing back to your main website, you run the risk of your own website losing all positioning or being banned completely.
